The DDD of a drug is the so called "Defined Daily Dose" and provides information about the maximum amount that could be given number - expressed in mg - within one day (24 hours) for therapeutic purposes.

according to WHO "The DDD is the assumed average maintenance dose per day for a drug used for its main indication in adults."

A similar parameter Davg may be used whenever no DDD has been assigned (or for other than main indication).
